We went down a day earlier to get our preparation right for the semi final against the Falcons last weekend. We watched the Lions Bulldogs game on Friday night and at training the day before, all the boys were pumped and excited for the game. We came out strong in the first quarter so we knew our preparation was right, but unfortunately we tailed off in the second half and Bluey gave us an almighty spray at half-time. There was a glimmer of hope in the second half but intensity dropped off and Geelong beat us during the pivotal moments and we couldn’t capitalize on our chances. Disappointing finish to the season, but plenty of positives to take out of the game and the season. No-one gave us a chance of playing finals football this season and everyone in Melbourne wrote us off before the season began. Plenty of things to get excited about though if you’re a GCFC fan. As a young team coming through for the first time, we started to gel really well by the end of the year, great experience to be in the finals and now just really looking forward to next year. Looking back on the season, there were a few defining moments for us. The Gippsland game was our best win and Shreevey kicking those 5 goals in the elimination final was spectacular! The bond this bunch of blokes showed was evident when Shreevey kicked his third in quick succession when 16 blokes all went over and patted him on the backside, it showed great team unity. We now have a few weeks off until November 9th when preseason starts. I am driving up to Cairns to spend time with the family and take the boat out on the lake for a bit of waterskiing. It will be good to have a break and enjoy some home cooking.
