Open Beach Training Surfers Paradise foreshore was busting with red and gold on Saturday morning for the Gold Coast SUNS open beach training and then signing session. Luke Russell and Dion PRestia give the pre-season latest.

These training sessions give us the opportunity to thank the Gold Coast community for supporting the football club.
The Gold Coast SUNS faithful fans swarmed to the Surfers Paradise foreshore this morning to watch their team tough it out at an open beach training session ahead of their NAB Cup pre-season campaign.

Hundreds of excited supporters flocked to the beach, eager to grab an autograph or have their photo taken with their favourite GC SUNS player, and to catch a glimpse of some of the team’s newest recruits.

Supporters enjoyed plenty of fun activities, including an AFL skills testing area where the city’s next generation of football superstars were able to show off their kicking and handballing skills.

Other fans decided to take the opportunity to practise the legendary torpedo punt in front of an impressed GC SUNS playing group.

The team’s younger fans were well looked after, enjoying some morning fun with the energetic Sunny Ray, while the 102.9 Hot Tomato team were broadcasting live.

Experienced midfielder Michael Rischitelli said it was important for the players to take the time to thank the club’s growing fan base for their continuous support, as the club heads into a promising season hungrier than ever to chase premiership points.

“These training sessions give us the opportunity to thank the Gold Coast community for supporting the football club.”

“For some of these younger kids, it gives them a chance to see some of their AFL heroes up close and personal, and we really get a kick out of that.”

“The supporters are the backbone of this club; and we need them more than ever as we strive for 20,000 members and in doing so helping is secure that elusive premiership in the next three years.”
