Plenty of Horsley Power

Exclusive to goldcoastfc.com.au 3:44pm AEDT Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Pre-Season Update With Horsley Elevated from the rookie list after a break out 2012 season West Australian recruit Kyal Horsley is aiming to cement his spot in the first 22 as the AFL season rolls closer,

My main goal in preparation for this season is just making sure that I’m in the best 22 playing group.
After a breakout year for the Gold Coast SUNS in 2012, elevated-rookie Kyal Horsley is determined to continue his impressive rise through the AFL ranks in 2013.

The hardworking mature aged recruit averaged 18 disposables from his thirteen first team appearances last year, impressing the clubs coaching staff with a number of best-on-ground performances.

The Kalgoorlie product then capped off his impressive debut season by taking out the 2012 Victor Sports Iron Man Award at the GC SUNS Club Champion Awards – presented to the player who achieved the most “desire indicators” on-field during the 2012 AFL season.

Horsley was a stand out during the SUNS high performance altitude camp held in Flagstaff Arizona and has made every step count as he works towards achieving his most immediate goal, a place in the round one side to face St Kilda on March 30th.

“Everyone’s looking to play round 1 so there’s definitely strong competition for spots around the club.

“However, I’m confident that I can make an impact if Bluey [McKenna] selects me.”

Blessed with an impressive line up of midfield stars which this year will also feature young gun Jaeger O’Meara, Horsley is well aware that competition for places in the top squad will be fiercely contested, and while he hasn’t given up on running alongside Captain Gary Ablett in the midfield, Horsley says he’ll happily play wherever Bluey [McKenna] feels he provides most valuable to the team.

“My main goal in preparation for this season is just making sure that I’m in the best 22 playing group.

“From there, hopefully I can enjoy improve on the back of last year’s solid performances.”
