Zac Smith is expected to be closely monitored by the club's medical staff, after the towering ruckmen sustained a knee injury in the opening term of the side's match against the Western Bulldog's at Metricon Stadium.

The 206cm skillful giant's performance was restricted by the knee complaint after going down at a boundary throw in, and despite his best efforts to play through the pain, senior coach Guy McKenna made the decision to activate substitute Luke Russell at half time.

GC SUNS General Manager of Football Operations Manager - Marcus Ashcroft, updated goldcoastfc.com.au on Smith's injury.

"Zac injured his knee in the first half of last nights match against the Bulldogs."

"At half time the medical staff determined that it we should substitute Zac.

"Zac will receive further medical treatment and scans  in and coming days where we will be in a position to determine the extent of the injury."

Smith was a significant factor in the club's historic 60-point victory against Melbourne at the MCG, and would likely have been focal point of the Bulldog's opposition analyse before boarding the flight to the Gold Coast.

The Club will confirm the full extent of Smith's injury as soon as it becomes available.
