Gold Coast SUNS young gun Jack Martin will undergo surgery on Tuesday following a consultation with shoulder specialists.

Martin and the club’s medical staff met with specialists to determine the most appropriate course of action to rehabilitate the AC joint he injured during the first quarter of the GC SUNS’ 18-point round 1 victory over Richmond at Metricon Stadium.

General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told goldcoastfc.com.au that despite requiring surgery, Martin left the consultation optimistic.

“Jack’s in a pretty good space, he and the club were pleased with the report he received from the specialist,” Ashcroft said.

“During the consultation it was determined that surgery was the best way to treat the injury.

Ashcroft said it was still too early to determine when Martin would return to field.

“Following Jack’s surgery he will continue extensive rehabilitation. As he progresses we will be in a better position to establish when he will be available to return.”
