Jesse Lonergan and Andrew Boston have both had scans on injuries suffered in the GC SUNS NEAFL season opener against Southport at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday.

GC SUNS General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said scans had confirmed Lonergan and Boston had both suffered fractures.

“Jesse has unfortunately sustained a fracture to his left hand, while Andrew has fractured his right ankle.

“Our medical staff will further assess Jesse and Andrew’s injuries in the coming days, where they will determine the appropriate course of action for both players, we will then be in a better position to determine the length of time Andrew and Jesse will be sidelined for,” Ashcroft said.

The GC SUNS selected Jesse Lonergan with selection 13 in the 2012 AFL Draft.

The Tasmanian midfielder’s first season was cut short after Lonergan suffered a hamstring injury against Hawthorn in Round 9. Rather than risk a return, the GC SUNS put him on ice to prepare him for 2014.

After being overlooked in the AFL Draft, Andrew Boston joined the GC SUNS with the club’s first selection in the AFL Rookie Draft (2012).

The former Broadbeach Cats star was selected by the GC SUNS as a local zone rookie, he played eight games in 2013 and was elevated to the senior list in March 2014, after Zac Smith (knee) was placed on the long term injury list.
