It was a tough night at Metricon Stadium on Saturday for the Gold Coast SUNS, going down to reigning premier Hawthorn by 99 points.

On a night where there weren’t too many stand out players, there were some individual performances worthy of votes in the Gold Coast SUNS Fans Player of the Year, presented by Alto Cucina & Bar.

Captain Gary Ablett once again led from the front collecting 35 disposals, 10 clearances and a goal despite some heavy attention from the Hawks taggers throughout the game.

David Swallow is becoming one of the GC SUNS’ most reliable players, and he delivered another good performance on Saturday night. He tallied 27 disposals, eight inside 50s and produced arguably the goal of the game in the third quarter after brilliantly reading the play from a boundary throw-in in the SUNS’ forward pocket and snapping truly on his left boot.

Dion Prestia also had 27 disposals for the SUNS while key backmen Steven May and Rory Thompson, despite being under constant pressure from the Hawks, had numerous spoils to thwart multiple Hawthorn forward entries.
