Gold Coast SUNS captain Gary Ablett has been named in the 40-man All-Australian squad but a handful of his teammates have been overlooked.

Ablett is the only SUNS player in the squad with the likes of David Swallow, Dion Prestia, Steven May and Tom Lynch missing out on honours this year.

The GC SUNS skipper has made the All-Australian team for a record seven straight years between 2007 and 2013. However, he is no certainty to make the final cut after having his season cut short by a shoulder injury suffered in Round 16 against Collingwood.

Ablett played 15 games in 2014, averaging an impressive 32.1 disposals per game. The highly-decorated midfielder also booted 24 goals, had 119 clearances, 77 inside 50’s and 91 tackles for the year.
