In positive news for Gold Coast SUNS fans, skipper Gary Ablett will be on the training track for day one of the pre-season in November.

GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, quashed any talk of Ablett’s recovery from his shoulder reconstruction taking longer than expected, declaring the eight-time All-Australian was making solid progress after the operation in July.

“He’s going really well and he’s on track,” Ashcroft told The Herald Sun.

“Because he had his surgery straight away he’s had more than enough time to get it right for the start of pre-season. He won’t do any contact work until after Christmas, but everything else he’ll be fine to do.

“We just want to make sure it’s absolutely right for contact.”
