The outstanding performances of Gold Coast trio Steven May, Tom Lynch and Harley Bennell have been rewarded with recognition in the round eighteen team as voted by AFL Media’s team of reporters.

For the second consecutive week, all three SUNS players were highly influential, with their collective effort against the West Coast Eagles on Saturday night, playing a pivotal role in the draw.

Bennell continued his strong return to the game with a second successive team of the week gong following a more well-rounded performance against the Eagles. The star midfielder collected a team-high 28 possessions, including 13 contested possessions, as well as seven tackles and seven clearances, to go with 616 metres of gained territory – the fifth most for the round.

May had the massive job of stifling the influence of Coleman medal leader Josh Kennedy and that’s precisely what he did. The key defender executed the role with aplomb, reducing the star forward’s impact to next to none whilst accumulating 16 disposals and 12 spoils of his own.

Lynch’s big mark and goal on the final siren will remain in the memory banks for some time, but his four goal haul was equally as impressive, especially with West Coast backman Will Schofield keeping Charlie Dixon quiet.
