The Gold Coast SUNS are confident defender Adam Saad will be passed fit to take on Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.

The former Coburg Lion appeared hampered by a hip complaint late in the game against North Melbourne but has recovered well over the past 48 hours.

“He’s pulled up okay this week,” GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told the Optomo Injury Report.

“He needs to train on Thursday which will be our main session for the week. So early on in the week he’ll get his rehab and physio to give him some relief in his hip area but we’re confident that by Thursday if he completes that and has no issues he’ll play on the weekend.”

Vice-captain Dion Prestia will bolster Gold Coast’s midfield against the Cats after overcoming a virus that sidelined him from the weekend’s game.

“Again, Dion’s another positive news story for this week, we expect him to play,” Ashcroft said.

“Had a virus last week. Felt better by the end of last week and into the weekend. He’ll train today and Thursday and be expected to play on Saturday night.”

Meanwhile, last year’s No. 20 draft pick Brayden Fiorini underwent successful surgery on a ruptured lateral collateral ligament in his right knee last week and will be aiming for a return to football in around eight weeks.

“Long-term prospect for him is probably eight weeks around the bye period,” Ashcroft said.

“So he’ll spend the next two weeks giving that time to repair and then when’s he’s gotten through that two-week period he’ll start rehabbing and start training with a return to play around the bye area.”
