SUNS spearhead Tom Lynch provided a masterclass in the first half of Gold Coast’s clash against Hawthorn in Launceston on Sunday.

Early in the second quarter, the Sorrento product had seven marks (five contested) to his name along with three inside 50s and two goals. It was a performance that resulted in Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson describing Lynch as ‘best on ground by country mile in the first 40 minutes’ of the game.

One of his partners in crime up forward, 203cm Peter Wright, said Lynch’s dominance came as no surprise to anyone within the four walls of Metricon Stadium.

“He’s probably the best mark in the competition at the moment and one of, if not the best forward going around as well,” Wright told SUNS TV.

“He’s in really good form, he marks everything but I think it’s his competitiveness that stands him apart. Just his will to get to contests and impact each contest he’s in is second to none.

“His training habits are elite and what he puts out on the park is no surprise to me or anyone else at the club.”
