Veteran Nick Malceski turned back the clock against St Kilda on Saturday, demonstrating precisely why the SUNS recruiting team lured the 2014 All Australian north two seasons ago.

The former Swan compiled his first 30-possession game in the red and gold, but more impressive was the return of the lethal left boot that regular tore apart opposition teams for the best part of a decade.

Malceski finished Saturday’s game with 21 kicks at 81% efficiency and gained 728 metres for his team, the most of any player in the competition in round 15. He also collected 10 marks, nine rebound 50s, four inside 50s and a goal – his most complete appearance since arriving at Metricon Stadium.

After 10 consecutive losses, the SUNS were long overdue for a win, which finally came against the Saints.

“We definitely needed it,” Malceski told FOX Footy’s Cam Mooney post-game.

“We were on a rough trot there for 10 weeks in a row, really set ourselves to win this game and it’s good getting a few blokes back, it helps out.”
