When Touk Miller arrived on the Gold Coast, foundation SUN Matt Shaw took the 2014 No. 29 draft pick under his wing.

Miller lodged with Shaw for his first week in Southeast Queensland and the boy from Maribyrnong Park quickly became an integral part of the furniture at Metricon Stadium, playing all 22 games in his debut season to finish fifth in the 2015 NAB AFL Rising Star voting.

While Miller has had a couple of interruptions to his 2016 season, he took his game to another level against Brisbane, earning himself the Marcus Ashcroft medal for best on ground in the QClash.

Speaking to SUNS TV, teammate Shaw was full of praise for the 20-year-old.

“He obviously had a really good start to the season and good start to his career last year,” Shaw said.

“He’s had a few interruptions through the start of this year with his ankle but he’s a very professional kid and he’s learned the way from the older boys like Gaz.

“You see him entering the midfield now and really having a good impact in there so I’m looking forward to watching his career unfold.”

Miller hasn’t just made an impact on the field, receiving a glowing character reference from Shaw.

“He was a very humble kid. Very polite, always offered to do the dishes and that sort of thing, which was handy,” Shaw said.

“But he’s grown in leaps and bounds Touky.

“He’s always a pretty confident kid. I don’t know if he could come out of shell even more, hopefully not.

“But he’s obviously very well respected among the group and he’s one of the most professional boys in the group for sure.”
