Gold Coast SUNS Chief Executive Mark Evans has declared that Saturday’s AFLW Grand Final and QClash13 game will be a “Festival of Football” at Metricon Stadium.

“We are thrilled that Metricon Stadium will host Saturday’s NAB AFLW Grand Final between the Brisbane Lions and Adelaide,” Evans said.

“The AFLW competition has had an incredible impact on the sporting landscape across the country and we look forward to working with the AFL, and the two clubs involved to ensure this showpiece event is a success.

“This outcome is fantastic for AFL in Queensland. To have a Festival of Football collection of matches on the Coast where we host the first ever Women’s Grand Final followed by the QClash – Lions against Gold Coast – will be an event you will not forget.

Evans said the club was working with the AFL to develop a program of activities for the day and believes Gold Coasters would get to Metricon Stadium to support Queensland’s AFL clubs.

“We are now in the process of finalising a full day of activity for the Festival of Football and importantly everyone is welcome,” Evans said.

“I think we have to regard the Brisbane girls as the Queensland team, and to see them here for the Festival of Football, that’s three Queensland teams all in action on the one day will be one of the most iconic AFL events Queensland has ever seen.

“I know there will be some of the Gold Coast-based girls who will be so excited because their families and friends will be able to come along, but equally, we hope all the people in Brisbane come down to the game and experience the first ever Grand Final outside of Victoria, male or female, and then stay for the match against the Gold Coast and the Lions.”

“Metricon Stadium is a great venue and I know everyone who comes here will have the most amazing time, and if you need tickets for the QClash, visit ticketek.com.au and to get your seats.”
