Sandwiched between the AFL Women’s Grand Final and QClash13 on Saturday, the Gold Coast SUNS and Brisbane Lions NEAFL teams will go head-to-head in a shortened practice match at Metricon Stadium starting at 4.40pm.

After defeating Aspley by 106-points last week, Steve Daniel’s team will be looking for another strong outing against their Queensland rivals, with several SUNS determined to push their cases after missing round one senior selection.

Brandon Matera booted five goals against the Hornets and another bag against the Lions will put him firmly in discussions for round two.

Youngsters Will Brodie, Brayden Fiorini, Jesse Lonergan and Josh Schoenfeld couldn’t find places in Gold Coast’s round one side, highlighting the emergence of the club’s midfield depth in 2017. Along with foundation SUN Matt Shaw, all they can do is put their best foot forward to be ready to seize the opportunity when it arises.

Veteran Jarrod Harbrow will play his second game on the comeback trail from injury, while defender Trent McKenzie makes his first appearance for 2017.

Ruckmen Dan Currie and Tom Nicholls will share the ruck duties, looking for big performances to usurp Jarrod Witts from the mantle of the club’s number one ruckman.

The game commences at 4.40pm on Saturday afternoon at Metricon Stadium, with patrons required to have valid QClash tickets or membership cards to gain entry.
