Dean Solomon will coach the Gold Coast SUNS for the remaining three games of the 2017 season.

The confirmation comes on the back of the news the Gold Coast SUNS Board made the decision not to renew Rodney Eade’s senior coaching contract late Monday.

“The possibility of Rodney coaching out the remainder of the 2017 season was discussed, but we all believed it was in the best interest of the club for Rodney to step aside, effective immediately,” CEO Mark Evans said.

“Now is not the time to communicate our next steps, however, in the interim Dean Solomon will assume the role of senior coach for the reminder of the 2017 season.

“On behalf of everyone involved at the club we thank Rodney, his wife Wendy and their family for their contributions to our football club and we wish them all the very best in the future.

“The Gold Coast Suns is a better football club for having Rodney at its helm over the last three seasons.

“His role in lifting the professionalism and standards and influencing the team’s culture is widely acknowledged.

The SUNS travel up the M1 on Saturday to face Queensland rivals Brisbane Lions, followed by their last home game of the season against Essendon and their Round 23 match with Port Adelaide.

“Dean [Solomon], the coaching staff and the whole playing group will certainly appreciate our fans ongoing support of the Club and we all hope to see you at the Gabba this Saturday for QClash 14 and of course back here at Metricon Stadium next Saturday night as we take on the Bombers in our final home game of 2017,” Evans said.
