Pearce Hanley will miss the second match of the Virgin Australia International Rules Series after suffering a hand injury during Ireland’s 10-point loss to Australia.

Hanley left the game in the second quarter after suffering a suspected fractured metacarpal.

The Irishman will return to the Gold Coast on Monday afternoon and will see club medicos on Monday evening to determine the full extent of the damage.

Australia opened the series with a gripping 10-point victory against Ireland on Sunday.

The hosts had to withstand a gallant fightback from the Irish in the last quarter to hang on 2.13.12 (63) to 1.13.8 (53).

More to come.
