The Gold Coast SUNS playing group kicked off their 2018 AFL Community Camp program on Tuesday visiting schools across the Gold Coast region.

In conjunction with AFL Queensland, the SUNS attended 19 schools, ranging as far north as Ormeau and as far south as Palm Beach.

All 45 players were involved on the day, assisting to run training and skills programs as well as AFLX-style games throughout the schools.

Jesse Joyce, Brad Scheer, Max Spencer, Brayden Crossley and Jacob Dawson were invited to a “Welcome Home Training Session” at Palm Beach Currumbin SHS.

All five attended the high school as students and oversaw the Sports Excellence Program session which included an AFLX game with the school’s female players.

The Camp also included a meet and greet with kids at the Gold Coast University Hospital and a Youth Homeless BBQ in the evening.

Tuesday was one of multiple Community Camp days the SUNS will attend in the next month, with a trip to far North Queensland once again part of the 2018 program.

In early March players will head to Townsville, Rockhampton and Mackay to further the club’s connections up north.

Townsville fans will also be treated to extra activities including an open training session in the lead up to the JLT Community Series match against Geelong at Riverway Stadium on March 4.

SUNS coaching staff will be conducting numerous masterclasses and development sessions in the Townsville area as well to share their knowledge and expertise with local clubs.
