Tickets are now on sale for the Gold Coast SUNS Round 1 fixture of the 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership season.

Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the Round 1 match at Cazalys Stadium between the Gold Coast SUNS and North Melbourne to be played on Saturday March 24 at 6.25pm local time.

GC SUNS Chief Executive Mark Evans, who was on site at the Cairns Sport Junior Sign On Say to offically launch the tickets, said the club was excited about once again bringing the Gold Coast SUNS & AFL football to an important region for the club.

"A round one game in Cairns presents a wonderful opportunity to showcase the region in what will be the first time, the much anticipated opening round of the AFL Season is played at a regional venue" Mr Evans said.

“For the 8th year in a row we will play a Toyota AFL premiership match in Cairns. As a club we need to continue to play our role in developing our game throughout North Queensland, a key recruitment catchment for the SUNS Talent Academy.

“Over the last two year’s we have drafted both Jack Bowes & Jacob Heron from the region, alongside inaugural Gold Coast SUN, Jarrod Harbrow who has played over 100 games for the Club.”

Minister for Tourism Industry Development Kate Jones said Cairns is a premier sporting events destination.

“Events like this play a crucial role in promoting tourism in the regions, promoting the state’s destinations, attracting visitors, supporting local jobs and fostering community pride,” Ms Jones said.

“Fans visiting Cairns will not only get a live dose of AFL action, but have the opportunity to stay on and explore this beautiful region from the Great Barrier Reef to ancient Daintree Rainforest.

“We look forward to welcoming AFL fans from across the country to Cazaly’s Stadium and to Tropical North Queensland once again.”

North Queensland AFL Fans can get excited by the fact that 2018 ticket prices would be held at the same price as 2017.
