Gold Coast secured a 16-point victory over North Melbourne on Saturday night, with an even contribution from the 22 players that ran out at Cazalys Stadium.

It was a night for typical wet-weather footy, and gaining territory was crucial to the outcome.

One player who epitomised that approach was Jack Bowes, who had 20 disposals – 17 of which were kicks – and ranked second for the SUNS in metres gained with 499m.

The local Cairns product, playing in front of family and friends for the second time in his short career, competed well and finished with eight contested possessions.

Senior coach Stuart Dew was pleased with Bowes’ impact on the contest, praising his ability to compete hard and play his role for the team.

"He played a magnificent role," Dew told the media after the game.

"We started him down back and we wanted a little more drive and he was one that could get a fair bit of depth off his kicks, going with those flat punts with the heavy ball.

"A couple of times when he needed to go in the last quarter, he halved the contests."

Bowes’ move further up the ground also had a scoreboard impact, with the youngster kicking the match-sealing goal midway through the final term.
