After sustaining a fractured ankle in December 2017 Harrison Wigg will make his return to the football field on Saturday in the NEAFL practice match.

General Manager – Football Operations, Jon Haines, told the Alpha Sport Injury Update although Wigg will only have limited game time, it’s a significant step in his recovery.

“Everyone’s really excited for Harrison, obviously he had that nasty injury early in the pre-season and he’s been fantastic with his rehab,” Haines said.

“It’s been great to have him back with the main group over the past few weeks and he’s really excited about playing in the NEAFL this weekend against Brisbane.”

Joining Wigg in the NEAFL practice match line-up will be Sean Lemmens as he makes his return from a hamstring injury sustained in JLT2, once again with limited game time.

Midfielder Aaron Hall (finger) is also a chance to join the AFL team on their trip to Etihad Stadium to take on Carlton in Round 2, while Pearce Hanley could return as early as Round 3.

“That was always a tricky little one in terms of the injury that he [Hall] had – it’s not a significant one and he’ll be ready for an assessment this week and will be a test to play,” Haines said.

“Pearce travelled with us up to Cairns, it was great to have Pearce around the group.”

“Obviously working through his rehab which he’s attacked really well.”

“He’s another 1-2 weeks away, he’ll continue his rehab this week and he’ll look to be a test for next week.”
