Darcy Macpherson is set for an extended stint on the sidelines after scans confirmed the 20-year-old has a fracture in his lower leg after the QClash win over Brisbane on Sunday.

The small forward was immediately taken from the ground after attempting a tackle on Lions midfielder Jarrod Berry who fell awkwardly on Macpherson’s right leg during the second quarter.

General Manager – Football Operations, Jon Haines, told the Alpha Sport Injury Update that Macpherson was looking at a 12-14 week recovery period.

“He’s got a fracture to his fibula so he went in and had surgery yesterday and obviously would be expecting a fairly extended period on the sidelines,” Haines said.

“At the same time we’re hopeful that towards the back end of the season he should be able to be getting up for some games."

In the earlier NEAFL match against Brisbane, defender Kade Kolodjashnij came off at half-time after encountering another setback.

“Kade experienced some concussion symptoms so he’s going to go through the normal concussion protocols this week and we’ll obviously have to assess him and see how he goes through that,” Haines said.

“It’s unfortunate for Kade but he’s obviously in really good hands with the medicos so we’ll just take their advice on that one.”

Also in that game, Harrison Wigg re-injured his ankle.

“Harrison has refractured the fracture that he had through the preseason so he’ll be in a moonboot for the next six weeks and then we’ll reassess after that period of time,” Haines said.

In more positive news for the club, key forward Peter Wright is expected to line up for the NEAFL for their Round 5 match against the Canberra demons, after nearing a return from his calf injury.

“It has been a lingering calf injury but Pete’s showing some really good signs,” Haines said.

“All things being equal with the work that he puts in this week, he’ll be right to play next week in the NEAFL which will be a really exciting time for him.”

Will Brodie (quad) and Josh Schoenfeld (hamstring) missed the NEAFL clash on the weekend but will be tested this week with Haines positive the pair will be fit to return to the field.

Callum Ah Chee made his comeback from a hamstring injury in the NEAFL, starring in the midfield to be one of the SUNS best on ground.

“He was terrific, it was a real credit to the rehab guys and the work they’ve done with him,” Haines said.

“He presented really well and looked really fit and strong and played about 70% last week.

“He’ll look to play a full game this week and that will be a really good step in his recovery as well.”
