A four-goal performance from Aaron Young earned eight votes from the coaches, the most of any player during Gold Coast’s 24-point upset victory against Sydney.

The forward had 17 touches and seven tackles, four of which were inside 50, while he was also among the top three SUNS for pressure acts.

After playing every game so far this season, Young has kicked multiple goals on five occasions and now sits at the top of the SUNS leaderboard for coaches votes.

Also polling strongly were key defenders Rory Thompson and Steven May, with five votes apiece.

Thompson successfully blanketed Swans superstar Lance Franklin, keeping the forward goalless, with six one-percenters and six spoils.

May was a rock in defence for the SUNS and took a record-equalling ten intercept marks to help repel the Swans’ attacks.

Lachie Weller (five votes) was influential with ball in hand as he gathered 23 disposals and kicked two goals, including the match-sealer.

The other SUNS to poll were forwards Peter Wright (three votes) and Alex Sexton (one vote).

Max Gawn continues to lead the competition in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award, ahead of Carlton midfielder Patrick Cripps and Hawthorn ball magnet Tom Mitchell.
