Season recap:

Evergreen defender Jarrod Harbrow enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2018. He won the Club Champion for the first time while also balancing his work off the field in the Community. Harbrow’s dedication to mentoring Indigenous youth saw him take out the SUNS’ Community Award and also finish as a finalist in the AFL-wide Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award.

Harbrow is a highly respected player within the club, resulting in him taking out the Players’ Player award at the end of the year. He also became the first player to reach 150 SUNS games in 2018, resulting in him being awarded life membership of the Gold Coast Football Club. Harbrow was a crucial player in 2018 and after signing a two-year extension on his contract will continue to be so in 2019 and beyond.

Best performances:

Harbrow was excellent in his hometown Cairns in Round 1, tallying 23 disposals and five tackles. He was also a standout in the games against Collingwood (29 disposals, 5 rebound 50s), Hawthorn (23 disposals, 10 rebound 50s) and Port Adelaide (27 disposals, 9 tackles, 8 rebound 50s).

Moment of the season:

There were so many highlights on and off the field for Harbrow but to cap it all off with his first Club Champion award would have to take the cake.

What’s next?:

Harbrow has said he is looking forward to taking some time away from footy during the off-season but will be looking to return fit and focussed. It seems he found the sweet spot in 2018 with the balance between football, community work and family so he will aim to replicate that and continue his good form on the field in 2019.

From the coach:

“There’s not much more I need to say about Harbs. He’s one of the most dedicated players I’ve seen and is highly respected amongst the coaches and players. He’s had an outstanding year on the field, but has been just as impressive off it as well. His work in the community is something we’re really proud of and hope to see him develop further. It’s fitting that he is the first player to become a life member of the club and I’m sure he will leave a legacy for years to come.”
