The Gold Coast SUNS five-plus year players returned for pre-season training on Monday and were quickly put through their paces for a 2km time trial.

New recruit Jordan Murdoch was first to cross the line, with the outside midfielder well-regarded for his running capacity and line-breaking speed in his time at Geelong.

Alex Sexton wasn’t far behind, crossing second, followed by Wil Powell who didn’t run in the initial time trial with the first to fourth-years.

Another former Cat in George Horlin-Smith finished next in fourth place.

Pearce Hanley has overcome his hamstring injury sustained late in the season and rounded out the top five after a positive off-season.

Another new recruit Jack Hombsch performed strongly for a key-position player, finishing sixth, while Jarrod Witts also ran admirably for his size.

The younger group were in attendance and watched from the sidelines after running the same time trial two weeks prior, where one of the club’s best runners Josh Schoenfeld topped the podium.
