Big Ben joins SUNS’ tall men

DRAFT: Ben King Interview SUNS TV spoke to Gold Coast's newest draftee, Ben King.

It was the draft pick that made its way all over the country during the Trade period, but the Gold Coast SUNS have made it count by selecting Victorian Ben King.

Ben and his brother Max have been all the talk of this year’s draft, and when Max was taken by St Kilda at #4, it wasn’t long until Ben joined his twin on an AFL list.

“It’s a dream come true to be able to get drafted and especially head up to the Gold Coast SUNS,” King said.

“I’m really excited.”

“I’m very proud of Max, for both of us to be able to get picked in the top 10 - I’m just really proud of us both.”

“It’s a credit to mum and dad for all their support over the years.”

King has been an interesting prospect this season, starting as a defender but moving into a key forward role when Max went down with an ACL injury.

He’s impressed at both ends of the field, but still is unsure where he is best suited.

“I’m not entirely sure where I see myself playing to be honest,” King said.

“I think it’s one of my strengths that I can be picked pretty much anywhere on the ground.”

If there were any doubts about moving interstate, King was quick to qualm those fears by expressing his desire to get started on the Coast.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club and the people they’ve brought in so I just can’t wait to get up there (to the club) and be a part of it,” he said.

“I can’t wait to get into it next week, get my body ready and my football ready to have an impact next year.”
