There has been weeks of speculation, but South Australian excitement machine Izak Rankine is officially a Gold Coast SUNS player.

The highly-rated prospect was quick to be read out, taken immediately after fellow SA-draftee and SUNS teammate Jack Lukosius at Pick #3.

“It’s pretty surreal, but dream come true,” Rankine told SUNS TV.

“I’m excited to be here and excited to start my new chapter.”

While it is always daunting moving interstate for the first time, heading up to the Gold Coast will be made easier for Rankine by a few familiar faces.

He’s already got Lukosius, but Rankine will also link up with former West Adelaide teammate Chris Burgess in the red and gold.

“I think that will make me feel a lot more comfortable especially with Jack and Burgo there,” Rankine said.

“Me and Burgo played in the same team and me and Jack also played in the same team so we can relate there.”

He’s been touted as arguably the most exciting player in this year’s draft pool, and Rankine says he is confident he can live up to the hype.

“I think they can expect that (X-factor) with the years to come but (I’ve) just got to do the hard work and see what happens,” he said.

“I’m just going to bring X-factor and push the team forward and we’re going to really put an emphasis on being a better team.”

Rankine was presented his first Gold Coast SUNS guernsey by 2018 Club Champion and SUNS life member Jarrod Harbrow, who he says he was excited to meet for the first time.

Both Rankine and Harbrow come from Indigenous backgrounds which has been an important aspect of Rankine’s life.

“(It was) pretty special to finally meet him,” Rankine said.

“I’ve heard a lot of talk about him but I finally got to meet him and we’re going to be working together in the years to come.”
