Draft History: 2011 NAB AFL Draft local talent access selection (Gold Coast) No. 88 overall.
Alex Sexton’s versatility is one of his greatest assets and he demonstrates an aptitude to be able to play a variety of roles, including as a run-with player.
During the first half of 2015, Sexton emerged as one of the most improved players inside Metricon Stadium, carving out a niche inside Gold Coast’s evolving engine room.
Injuries at different times in the back half of the season interrupted the Queenslander’s impressive year, but he was one player who put his hand up for a spot in the SUNS midfield in years to come.
The pinnacle of his season came against Adelaide in round six, where he was handed the job of quelling the influence of 2014 All Australian Brodie Smith. Sexton performed the duty with aplomb, completely nullifying the dangerous playmaker. He did the same again in round 17 against the Crows at Adelaide Oval.
