Draft History: 2011 NAB AFL Draft 1st round selection (Gold Coast) No. 24 overall.
It may have taken Henry Schade longer than any other SUNS player to earn a debut, but he proved to be well worth the wait, quickly becoming a permanent fixture in Rodney Eade’s back six.
After debuting in round five’s QClash, Schade went on to play 15 of the final 18 games in a defensive key post. On occasion, when Steven May and Rory Thompson were missing, Schade would take the opposition’s best forward. And whilst the lessons were sometimes grave, 2015 was a massive development year for Schade.
Positioned alongside May for the back end of the year the Tasmanian grew in confidence, becoming a key component of Gold Coast’s defensive setup. Schade signed a contract extension with the SUNS in the back half of the year, tying him to Metricon Stadium until the end of 2017.
