It hasn’t been an easy road for Gold Coast SUNS journeyman Tom Murphy, but the new backline leader will celebrate 100 AFL appearances in the red-and-gold colours against Fremantle on Saturday night.

Tom Murphy joined the Gold Coast SUNS during the 2012 AFL Trade Period as a free agent.

Murphy has forged a reputation as a tagging defender during his 95 games at Hawthorn, and was a much respected player since he was taken in the 2004 draft.

Ironically he captained the Hawks for the round 24 clash with Gold Coast in 2011.

Murphy has endure plenty of heartbreak in his career date, being dropped during the finals series in both 2008 and 2012. 

Murphy's experience and leadership will be valuable additions to the GC SUNS.

Draft history: 2004 NAB AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Hawthorn) No. 21 overall.
