(Gold Coast) No. 11 overall.
The hard-working centre half-forward took major strides in 2014. Lynch played all 22 games, was the club’s leading goalkicker with 46 and was a close runner-up to David Swallow in the best and fairest. The vice-captain never dropped his standards no matter how well – or poorly late in the season – his team was travelling. He averaged 16 disposals and six marks and kicked four or more goals in five games to prove himself the most consistent forward target. His round 22 performance against Essendon with the Suns’ season on the line was outstanding, kicking four goals to help give his team a fighting chance of an upset win. Lynch is not flashy or fashionable, but is one of the best young forwards in the competition and right in the frame to succeed Gary Ablett as the Suns’ skipper when the dual Brownlow medallist decides it’s time to hand over the reins.
