After two seasons of injury and inconsistency, the prodigiously talented West Australian gave fans a glimpse into his boundless ability in 2016. Martin started the year as a permanent forward, kicking nine goals in the SUNS’ opening three wins, but was then shuffled to half-back as injuries struck the team.
It took a little while, but the 22-year-old settled on the back line, and his poise and quality decision-making was a highlight. He also spent time in the midfield and returned forward as the season wore on. Martin played 21 games, by far the best output of his young career, and finished third in the best and fairest.
He has all the skills and if his upward trajectory continues, both the SUNS and AFL fans are in for a treat in 2017.
