The 2012 Gold Coast SUNS Club Champion awards night was held at the Southport Sharks Football Club on Saturday 8th September. Hosted by Mark Beretta, the evening was again a huge success with a sold-out room witnessing Gary Ablett win the Club Champion award for the second consecutive year.
As the gala event of the year, guests were treated to red carpet royalty with an elegant room design, premium food and beverages and classy entertainment topping off the opportunity to celebrate the 2012 season alongside some of the game’s greatest players.
The hero of the night though, of course was the all-important Club Champion vote count along with award presentations in categories such as community, NEAFL, improvement and professionalism.
It was Gary Ablett’s night once more with the captain leading the way in a breath-taking 2012 season, finishing on 215 votes. Addressing the audience, a humble Ablett praised the “right people” involved at the Gold Coast SUNS and expressed his desire to bring a premiership cup to the city and club he now holds close to his heart.
Club Champion runner up, the brilliant Harley Bennell (163 votes) proved just how far he had come on in 2012 by receiving the maximum number of round votes on two occasions and receiving the most improved award.
Danny Stanley (84 votes) was rewarded with a fantastic season for the club, finishing in 3rd place just ahead of Matthew Warnock (82 votes). It was a sensational effort from Stanley after missing the first seven matches of the season.
The 2013 Club Champion awards night is sure to be another spectacular event, watch this space for more information in 2013.
