Rory Thompson was a surprise packet who flourished once reserves coach Shaun Hart moved him from attack to the backline mid-season. When given his chance with the seniors in round 16, the strongly built Southport junior excelled in the back half and was a terrific foil for Nathan Bock.
Strong, athletic and spoils well, Thompson can pinch-hit forward and in the ruck.
Back in 2009, locally raised ruckman Rory Thompson was the eighth Queensland teenager to commit to the Gold Coast Football Club, as it was then known.
A Southport Sharks junior and a Queensland under-16 and under-18 representative, the two-metre tall Thompson is the son of Sharks hall-of-famer and dual premiership full-forward Brett.
