The Gold Coast SUNS have defeated the Collingwood Magpies by 20 points at the AIA Centre this afternoon.

The SUNS trailed by 21 points early in the fourth quarter to storm home with an eight-goal final term and run home 20-point winners.

The win came off the back of a seven-goal haul from Chris Burgess who was the star up forward for the Gold Coast.

The scoring was opened by Alex Sexton as the SUNS controlled the majority of the first quarter.

Goals to Burgess, Sam Flanders and Elijah Hollands helped Gold Coast to a six-point quarter time lead.

Patrick Murtagh was elite down back with five, first quarter marks, to stall the Magpies late quarter charge.

The second quarter was a tightly contested affair in the early stages as Collingwood began to take control.

A run of four unanswered SUNS goals to close out the half helped them to a seven-point lead at the main break.

Flanders collected 17 disposals to go along with his two first half goals, as Brayden Fiorini and Jack Bowes had 18 touches and five clearances each, to set the tone through the middle of the ground.

Ned Moyle was at his dominant best with 22 first half hitouts to take control of the ruck battle.

The third quarter was controlled by Collingwood who kicked four goals to one and led at the final change by nine points.

Hewago Oea kicked his first and the only SUNS goal of the third term, he would finish with three goals and played a key role in the final quarter comeback.

Rory Atkins was busy through the middle of the ground and had 27 disposals at the last break.

The fourth term started shakily for the Gold Coast giving up two quick goals to trail by 21 points.

Burgess then turned the tide with his fifth and opened the floodgates.

Bowes, who was one of the best on the day, kicked two in a row to put the SUNS within one kick.

Gold Coast then kicked five straight goals to finish the game, including two each, from Oea and Burgess, to put the game beyond doubt.

Moyle finished the match with 45 hitouts and six clearances of his own along with Elijah Hollands who had 20 disposals and a goal to continue his strong form.

Fiorini impressed for a second week in row with 35 disposals and six tackles along with Flanders who finished with 31 touches.

Bowes who stood up and led the way in the SUNS fight back in the final quarter, had 39 disposals, 12 clearances and two goals to really push his case for an AFL selection.
