Metricon Stadium became a one-stop shop for those impacted by homelessness across the Gold Coast.
Metricon Stadium once again became a one-stop shop for those impacted by homelessness across the Gold Coast on Wednesday.
Homeless Connect, now into its ninth year, allows people who are homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless to get in touch with a variety of community services, including health and wellbeing, legal advice and counselling.
Gold Coast SUNS Chief Operating Officer, Paul Pamenter, said the club were proud to play their role in supporting the event.
“The club’s been involved for seven years now and this is our fourth hosting it at Metricon Stadium as well so it’s a long relationship and one we’re really proud of,” Pamenter told SUNS TV.
“From a service point of view it really comes down to health services, it’s everything form employment advice and assistance and basic services such hair cutting and things like that.
“Really it’s quite a broad offering here today.”
This event is an initiative of the Gold Coast Homelessness Network and is proudly supported by the Gold Coast Community Fund, Gold Coast SUNS, City of Gold Coast, O’Brien Group Australia, Metricon Stadium, and 91.7 ABC Gold Coast.
SUNS midfielder, David Swallow, was present at the event as part of his ongoing role with the YHES House.
“The club’s done a really good job in facilitating the homeless connect,” Swallow said.
“It’s great to see so many volunteers and people getting on board.”
As part of their growing community involvement and Horizons program, the Gold Coast SUNS have volunteered nearly 30,000 hours in the community since the club’s inception.
