This Saturday afternoon, Lachie Weller will play his 50th career game when he runs out for the SUNS against his former side Fremantle.

The midfielder will reach the milestone in his fourth season at AFL level after returning home to the Gold Coast during last year’s trade period.

The milestone game is one that he’s happy to tick off but it’s clear that Weller is keen for more.

“It’s just the beginning of my career,” Weller told goldcoastfc.com.au.

“It’s not a massive milestone but it’s nice and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.”

Coming into a new club, albeit one that he was quite familiar with, wasn’t an overly daunting task for Weller.

Having been involved in the SUNS Academy during his youth, he was able to land on his feet and settle quickly.

“I think I settled in first week. It’s pretty easy to settle in around here.

“It’s a good, tight group and I felt really settled straight away and we’ve been playing some good football.”

His two games for Gold Coast have both resulted in wins, with Weller playing a number of roles across the midfield and half-back.

Weller has averaged 17 touches across the opening two rounds and will be keen to continue building his form when the SUNS take to Optus Stadium.
