The Gold Coast SUNS have today named their first ever women’s side to take on the GWS GIANTS in the Winter Series opener on Saturday.

The team is composed of sixteen players on the field, five on the bench and one emergency.

Jordan Membrey, Jamie Stanton, Tahlia Randall and Selena Goodman headline the inclusions with AFLW experience.

The Gold Coast is well-represented with 12 of the starting 21 based on the Coast with other players hailing from Townsville, Cairns and Brisbane.

SUNS Academy members Georgia Brehmer, Tori Groves-Little, Madison Goodwin and Charlotte Hammans are all named to play.

Gold Coast will boast a strong midfield with Emma McKenzie taking on the premier ruck duties supported by livewire Maddy Roberts, hard nut Emma Aeschlimann and the elusive Georgia Brehmer.

McKenzie will be the centrepiece of a talented spine featuring Beth Pinchin and Tahlia Randall in defence and Selena Goodman and Holly Mirfield in the forward half.

The Winter Series match kicks off at 10:30am on Saturday at Tom Wills Stadium.
