The Gold Coast SUNS are pleased to announce Jordan Membrey and Beth Pinchin as the club’s inaugural captains of the 2018 Women’s Winter Series team.

Membrey & Pinchin were appointed off the back of their dedication throughout training and the leadership qualities they had demonstrated since the squad was announced.

The duo will have the support of a four-person leadership group which includes AFLW star Tahlia Randall, SUNS Academy member Georgia Brehmer as well as Emma McKenzie and Luana Healy.

“I’m really excited and it’s a huge honour to be able to lead this group for the 2018 series,” Pinchin said.

“I’m looking forward to working with Jordan to drive the standards of our group and really shape the way we want to play as we get set for 2020.”

Gold Coast SUNS Winter Series coach Michael Gugliotta said the two women will drive the team’s standards and shape the culture leading into the 2020 AFLW season.

“We’re delighted to have Jordan and Beth as our Winter Series captains for 2018,” Gugliotta said.

“They will both be a strong voice out on the field and consistently demonstrate the core values and elite standards we are striving for.

Pinchin, 21, is a Gold Coast local who plays for Coolangatta in the QWAFL and has represented Queensland at Under 18 level, including All-Australian honours in 2014.

Membrey, 22, was recruited as a free agent by the Brisbane Lions in the first AFLW season and currently plays for Wilston Grange in the QWAFL.

She played five games for the Lions and currently coaches the U17 Gold Coast Sunsets and the SUNS female Academy as an assistant coach.

The squad will feature six north Queensland players led by leadership group member Luana Healy.
