There’s just days until the final Winter Series match of 2018 and excitement levels are at an all-time high according to squad member Holly Mirfield.

“The vibe around the club has been really good,” Mirfield told SUNS TV.

“The fact that we’re able to come together and play as a team is just an awesome sort of vibe and energy.

“That ten-week period, it’s been an awesome experience altogether.

“From QWAFL to this league, the skills, the aggression, everything is just completely amped up and it’s awesome to play against.”

The Winter Series is part of the SUNS’ overall build-up to 2020 when the club will field an AFLW side for the first time.

The AFLW side will be shaped by Winter Series performances, and Mirfield says the girls can sense they are getting closer to their dreams.

“I think the girls are just getting really anxious but also excited about all the opportunities that are coming up.

“Especially when it all actually happens, everyone’s just going to have their fingers crossed.”

The squad has been training at Southport Sharks and are preparing for Round 3 against the Brisbane Lions in a curtain raiser at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

Mirfield says she’s been waiting for the day she gets to run out on Metricon Stadium’s main deck.

“The grounds are beautiful and I’m keen to get my studs on that grass to be honest,” she said.

“The crowd will just be awesome so hopefully we get plenty of people there for the SUNS v Essendon match.

“But yeah it will be an awesome curtain raiser, hopefully we can get as many people down as possible supporting us girls.”
