Alpha Sport Injury Update: Round 20

Alpha Sport Injury Update: Round 20 The latest injury news, thanks to Alpha Sport.

David Swallow is progressing through the concussion protocols this week after receiving a knock to the head in the first quarter against Carlton on Saturday.

Swallow was attempting to win the ball near the boundary line when his head was driven into the ground in a fair Patrick Cripps tackle.

The midfielder left the field and did not return after failing the subsequent concussion tests.

Surprisingly, this incident is the first time Swallow has experienced any concussion in his career.

“David’s recovering really well and he’ll undertake the normal concussion protocols this week,” Gold Coast’s GM – Football Operations Jon Haines told the Alpha Sport Injury Update.

“Subject to him getting through that this week he’ll be available for selection.”

In just his second game back from a hamstring injury, Matt Rosa will be set for another stint on the sidelines after injuring his ankle in the NEAFL on Saturday.

“Matt Rosa has unfortunately continued an injury-interrupted season and on the weekend he experienced a high-ankle strain on his left leg,” Haines said.

“At this stage it looks like a four-week injury for Matt which is really unfortunate.

“We know that he’ll be pushing hard to try to get back to play toward the end of the year but we’ll see how that rehabilitation progresses over the coming weeks.”

Haines also gave an update on first-year SUN Charlie Ballard who missed Saturday’s match with a knee injury.

“Charlie had a left lateral ligament strain in his knee last weekend (Round 19) and missed last weekend’s game due to that,” he said.

“At this stage Charlie’s due to miss four weeks due to that injury and again we’ll see how he progresses over the coming weeks to see if we can get him back for the end of the season.”
