2018 SUNS Club Champion, Jarrod Harbrow, returns to the leadership group for the 2019 season.

While not an official member of the leadership group in previous years, Harbrow has still provided plenty of guidance and been a sounding board for the club’s emerging leaders and Indigenous players.

The 30-year-old told SUNS Media it was exciting to be back in an official capacity after being voted in by his peers.

“It just gives you confidence and it’s just another reflection that you’re going about your business in the right way and you’re doing all the right things,” Harbrow said.

“The input from your teammates is what you value the most so I’m happy for everyone involved and happy to be in here.”

While always displaying strong leadership skills on the football field, Harbrow has also worked tirelessly off the field mentoring others.

He has worked extensively with Indigenous members of the SUNS Academy and put together a leadership and professional development course which he says has also helped his own skills.

“That (mentoring aspect) always plays a part and it’s something that I’ll always find myself naturally doing,” Harbrow said.

“I’m always here to support in any way that I can I think that’s what I’ve always been able to do pretty well and just build relationships with players and staff and everyone involved in the Gold Coast SUNS.”

Harbrow says working under co-captains David Swallow and Jarrod Witts will be another exciting component of his role in 2019.

“(I’m) very happy for those two,” he said.

“Anyone inside the footy club knows how well-respected those two boys are.

“I think it was a pretty obvious choice in the end for those two and they get along so well and I think they’ll work really well together.”

While the best 22 will look quite different on the field this season, so too will the leadership group off the field with Harbrow one of four new members from last year.

But the evergreen defender has no doubt the group will be able to deliver positive results for the football club.

“I think we’re all pretty confident,” he said.

“We’ve been on a journey now for a while and we’re pretty excited to where we want to get to.

“We’ve put a mountain of work in over the pre-season and all the rest of the boys in the leadership group thoroughly deserve to be in there.”
