Coming off a tough match against Adelaide on the road, the SUNS will be looking to regroup and reset for this weekend’s QClash at Metricon Stadium.

The team at SUNS Media have dissected the Easter Sunday performance at the Adelaide Oval and presented a few key takeaways from the match.

Prolific Pearce:

In his 150th game, Pearce Hanley was a standout for the SUNS. The 30-year-old was a creator off half-back for the SUNS, collecting 29 disposals and hauling in six marks in defence. However what was most impressive about Hanley’s game was his match-high 11 rebound 50’s. There were signs of vintage Hanley coming to the fore, with the Irishman utilising his pace and zip to get the ball moving out of defence for the SUNS. He’s been like a new recruit for the SUNS in 2019, and the club will be hoping to see more performances like this from Hanley in the coming weeks.

Forward line formula:

The SUNS are still searching for the right mix in the forward line. Peter Wright looked good on Sunday with three goals and was supported by Jack Lukosius and Alex Sexton who both kicked one. Chris Burgess was swung into defence in the second half with Jack Hombsch given an opportunity to impact up forward by creating a contest. With the likes of Josh Corbett and Sam Day impressing in the NEAFL, there could be some changes to the lineup again come QClash this weekend.

Maturing midfield:

In a match where they came up against one of the most formidable midfield units in the competition, the emerging SUNS midfielders showed they were up for the challenge. Brayden Fiorini and Jack Bowes continued their strong starts to the season with 30 and 21 disposals respectively. Touk Miller continues to be a barometer in the engine room, again recording a team-high nine tackles to go with 28 disposals. In his first AFL game of the season, Will Brodie was also solid with 23 disposals and seven tackles. They’ve still got plenty to build on as the season unfolds but the blossoming unit is showing signs of maturity already.
