Stuart Dew loves most sports and said his Gold Coast team could learn something from two incredible UEFA Champions League soccer matches played over the past two days.

On Wednesday, Liverpool overcame a 3-0 first-leg deficit to Barcelona to win 4-0 and advance to the final.

On Thursday, it was Tottenham's turn to overturn a three-goal deficit to win deep into injury-time.

"You've only got to look at the two Champions League (semi) finals that if there's a margin staring at you you've got two ways to go, accept it or have a crack at pulling it back in and getting over the top," Dew said.

"There's examples everywhere. We can take something from that.

"The best teams never give up and give themselves an opportunity."

Although the stakes were significantly lower, Dew said his team could take something from its brave second-half fightback against West Coast last Saturday night.

After trailing by 39 points against the reigning premier at Optus Stadium, the Suns got within 11 points with five minutes remaining before conceding the game's final two goals.

Dew said his team would have to get its mindset right from the first bounce against Melbourne on Saturday.

"We were able to pinch two quarters against the reigning premiers … pleasing in that sense that we showed we could compete," he said.

"The challenge will be to get that belief from the start, not just when you kick a couple of quick goals.

"We saw a totally different side in the second half, which was pleasing, but also a few question marks why it wasn't earlier.

"We'll focus on what we were able to produce against a really hardened team and look to replicate that this week."

Dew said Pearce Hanley (shin) would return and indicated Lachie Weller (hamstring) could also make his comeback after missing a month.

Sean Lemmens is also likely to be included after overcoming an ankle injury and kicking four goals in the NEAFL last weekend.
