One of Gold Coast's forgotten men will play his first game of the season against St Kilda in Townsville on Saturday.

Former number eight draft pick Callum Ah Chee has played three games in the NEAFL after overcoming a quad injury and is ready to roll after completing Thursday morning's main training session.

Ah Chee's availability comes at just the right time as the Suns have lost Ben Ainsworth (foot), Jack Bowes (quad) and Jordan Murdoch (foot) in successive matches.

"He's been going really well, Cal, so he'll play this week, which is exciting," coach Stuart Dew said.

"He's been chipping away all year really.

"He's had a few ups and downs the last 12 months with injury, so we're pleased to get him out there and see what he can do again."

With much of Gold Coast's high-end talent, including Bowes, Ainsworth, Pearce Hanley and Izak Rankine sidelined, the Suns are craving the speed and skill of Ah Chee.

In his fourth year, the versatile West Australian has played 44 games and is one of the cleanest players by hand or foot at the club.

The two teams squared off in round one, with the Saints getting home by a solitary point, but Dew said it would be difficult to apply much from that contest to Saturday's.

"We'll be a different team from round one and they'll have a few different faces as well," he said.

"Although it's in the same season things change with a 12-13 game gap, there's some minor adjustments. We're looking forward to this one.

"We'd love that win to validate some of our efforts and to show the boys they are making some gains.

"What we see day in and day out they're making a fair few gains and it just hasn't translated yet."

Vice-captain Touk Miller completed "all that was asked of him" on Thursday but is in some doubt to retain his place after suffering a corked thigh last Saturday against North Melbourne.
