Dew expecting a response

Dew talks Round 18 SUNS Senior Coach Stuart Dew speaks to the media ahead of Round 18 v Carlton.

After two tough weeks SUNS Senior Coach Stuart Dew says his players have put the disappointments behind them and are ready to bounce back against Carlton in Round 18.

Speaking to the media on Thursday morning, Dew said the coaches and players sat down early in the week to assess their situation and what the club can still garner from the remaining six weeks of the competition.

“Monday we went through where we think we’re at but it was little bit more holistic in terms of the six weeks upcoming rather than the four quarters,” Dew said.

“Clearly we’re looking to regain confidence so we went back a little bit and looked at what made us a good side and hard to play against early in the season and then focussed on working out how we can actually extract that in the next six weeks.”

Dew said the open and honest communication from that meeting allowed them to identify the best plan of attack to get back to Gold Coast’s early-season form.

“There’s different parts in the season where I think confidence has been knocked and we haven’t had the ability to bounce back,” Dew said.

“One of the things early in the year is we were able to absorb opposition momentum and that’s been a big one that we just haven’t been able to do that (recently).

“So when that time comes on the weekend our boys are looking forward to holding up and then pushing back.”

Dew said it would take a collective effort to get back on course for the remaining six games of the season.

“There’s ownership from everyone, it’s not just the players it’s the coaches (as well),” Dew said.

“We’re looking to make sure that the work we’ve put in early in the year comes out again for six weeks and we don’t continue to slide.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how the boys go on the weekend.”
