SUNS Development Coach Tim Clarke has given his appraisal of the SUNS’ listed players’ performances in the Round 16 NEAFL match against Brisbane.

Josh Corbett

It was a tough day for a key forward with the dominance of Brisbane in the game but Josh battled hard as always, looking to provide an option for our players up the ground. He competed well in the contest but didn’t get much reward for his efforts. Josh will be looking to bounce back this week against GWS.

Sam Fletcher

Sam didn’t have the same influence on the game as other weeks. He played more time as a high forward so this contributed to the lower possession rate. We would like to get more value from his possessions so kicking will be a focus this week at training.

Caleb Graham

It was good for Caleb to get exposed to the more experienced Brisbane forward line this week. He lacked his usually physicality on his opponent and in the contest on the day and was beaten by his opponent. After a solid month of football prior to the weekend he is looking to bounce back this week against the Giants.

George Horlin-Smith

George was one of our better players on the day and battled hard all game inside the contest with eight clearances and five tackles. He had clean ball handling in congestion and his skill execution was a positive of his game. He also provided terrific leadership for our young side.

Jack Leslie

Jack was solid defensively on the night and provided terrific leadership with his defensive actions, always looking to come forward to defend. Another pleasing part of Jack’s game was his offensive impact, he was aggressive with ball in hand and was always looking to hit a target which has been a strong focus of his during the week at training.

Jez McLennan

Jez had a defensive role on one of Brisbane’s dangerous small forwards and did a good job. He continues to grow with his defensive positioning and understanding of how to help out his teammates by providing support. Offensively he was confident with ball in hand which has been a focus for him at training.

Tom Nicholls

Tommy was solid in the ruck and won his position on the day. His his ruck work and follow-up was a big factor in the positive clearance differential. His eight clearances from 20 touches is a good return for Tom as a ruckman. His leadership and care for his teammates continues to be a highlight of his game.

Brad Scheer

Brad was solid inside the contest all day with five clearances and six tackles. His clean ball use and locking the ball in was a positive. We needed Brad to shut down Brisbane players at times and he was disciplined when given the role. Overall, a solid contributor on the day.

Josh Schoenfeld

It was Josh’s first game back for a while and it was good to have him out there with our young team. He used the ball well in offence but was down on his usual impact with only 12 touches and 3 tackles. He had managed game time and will look to progress this to a full game this week against the Giants.
