A career-best season has seen Darcy Macpherson finish the year third in Gold Coast’s Club Champion.

The fourth-year SUN managed to play every game of the season for the first time in his career and established himself as a regular midfielder in 2019.

Known for his exceptional defensive pressure, Macpherson brought that skillset into his new midfield role and finished the year as the seventh-most prolific tackler in the entire league.

He also ranked eighth in pressure acts and 10th in tackles inside 50 within the AFL.

The midfielder averaged 18 disposals, four marks and six tackles per game in 2019 after being upgraded off the rookie list at the end of the 2018 season.

Signing a contract extension during the year, Macpherson will head into the 2020 season with a newfound sense of security and belief.

Best game:

Macpherson had plenty of solid games, but his best would have to be in Round 8 against Melbourne. The midfielder had a career-high 27 disposals against the Dees and backed it up with eight tackles and five marks. An honourable mention has to go to his Round 18 performance however where he had 25 disposals and 10 tackles.

Moment of the season:

Placing third in the Club Champion would be his most pleasing highlight for the year, although he did kick some superb goals this season including a dribbler from the pocket against GWS. Flipping over the fence in Townsville is something he’d probably like to forget.
