Inaugural SUN retires

Nicholls, 27, has played 45 games since joining the SUNs as a 17-year-old access selection in 2010.

After making his debut in Round 8, 2011 against Adelaide, Nicholls had his best season’s in 2015 and 2016 playing 15 games in consecutive years.

General Manager – Football Operations, Jon Haines thanked Nicholls for his contribution to the club.

“On behalf of the everyone involved with the football club, we would like to take the opportunity to thank Tom for his commitment and contribution to the Gold Coast SUNS,” Haines said.

“Tom has played an considerable role in establishing our football club as a foundation player and will always be part of our history and welcome anytime.

“He’s a great character, has brought a lot to the playing group and wider Gold Coast community throughout his career and has been much loved by our players, staff, members and fans. We wish him all the best with his future endeavors.”

In 2017 and 2018 Nicholls battled with injury but returned strongly in 2019 playing 17 games in the NEAFL and was named in the NEAFL team of the year.

The GC SUNS have until Thursday October 31 to lodge their initial 2020 playing list to the AFL.
